Health experts recommend early mammography and screening

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – In honor of National Women’s Health Week, a National Health Professional Group has released new breast cancer screening recommendations for women.
According to draft recommendations from the U.S. Task Force on Preventive Services, women should start having regular mammograms at age 40.
The recommended age was previously 50 years. Health experts say the change is the result of new and more comprehensive science on breast cancer.
Experts say it’s best to test early.
“It’s a better chance. There’s a lower risk of spreading the disease and of course better survival, which is what the detection program is about,” said Anita Antonioli, a breast surgeon at Promedica.
For this reason, the US Preventive Services Task Force has lowered the recommended age at which women should start mammography.
