Bolton is now at high risk of coronavirus infection after Blackburn spike

Bolton is at high risk of spread following a surge of coronavirus cases bordering Derwen and Blackburn – but the talk of a local blockade is “premature,” the mayor of Greater Manchester said.

The Public Health Director of the Bolton Council meets with local officials today (July 15) to discuss the increased risk of coronaviruses.

This is after residents of Blackburn with Darwen were urged to comply with “special measures” the following month after the sudden surge in COVID-19.

Health department bosses have warned that these surges in nearby municipalities and nearby Pendle are “early warning signs” that could lead to retaxation of some blockades.

From July 7th to 13th, there were 9.4 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 in Bolton, and only 2.6 in Berry. This is the lowest number in Greater Manchester.

Sir Richard Reese, chairman of the Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership, also spoke at a remote news conference on Wednesday about the increased risk of moving Derwen and its adjoining Blackburn to the Borough.

He said: “There is really close cooperation between Blackburn and the directors of Derwen’s Population Health, I think I’m guessing all of the surrounding municipalities, especially Bolton and Berry I will.

Dr. David Greenhull, leader of the Bolton Council, said: “We are showing encouraging signs and the public health team is closely monitoring the situation with all available information.

“We can respond quickly to the situation needed to limit further expansion. This, along with everyone who follows the guidance, is the key to overcoming this crisis.

“But the virus isn’t gone and it’s not a more serious illness than it was four months ago. We still need to be extremely careful and take all precautions.
