Two Mosquito Virus Samples Found in Kern County, Public Health Safety Alert
West Nile virus and St. Louis encephalitis are serious illnesses discovered in Kern County this year.
The Kern County Public Health Department says the virus has been detected in birds and is transmitted by mosquitoes that suck on infected birds.
The virus can be transmitted to humans through mosquitoes.
This virus has been around for some time and there have been a few cases of human infection here in Kern County in the past.
People can get sick because these two mosquito viruses are floating around the city.
Michelle Colson of the Kern County Public Health Department said she now has a way to track where these positive mosquitoes primarily originate.
“We have a map on our website where we can post the zip codes where these positive samples were found so the community can know if a positive has been detected near where they work or live,” Colson said. said Mr.

Public health recommends washing and scrubbing containers that collect water so that potential mosquito eggs can be removed.

To reduce the risk of mosquito-borne infections:
