Vanderbilt hires up to 1,000 people for COVID-19 vaccine trial
Nashville, TN (AP)—Vanderbilt University Medical Center is recruiting up to 1,000 volunteers to participate in late-stage trials of the COVID-19 vaccine.
The hospital says it will begin recruiting people at the end of the month. The vaccine is being developed by Moderna Inc. along with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Vaccine Research Center at the National Institutes of Health.
The randomized, placebo-controlled Phase 3 trial is for users 18 years and older. They receive two doses of either the vaccine or an inactive placebo and are followed for 2 years.
The purpose of this study is to determine how effective a vaccine is in protecting against COVID-19 and how long it will last.
Authorities say several US centers are participating in national phase 3 trials and will enroll 30,000 volunteers in the next two months.
