A new company has been added to the OHA list of workplace occurrences for COVID-19. Coronavirus
Hermiston-Walmart Distribution Center and Marlet Holmes in Hermiston joined the Oregon Department of Health’s weekly workplace list of COVID-19 outbreaks in a report Wednesday, July 15.
To protect your privacy, OHA only names workplaces with more than 30 employees and at least five cases are linked to the site. The number of cases includes the positive contact of the employee and the close contact of the employee who may have been infected by the virus, considering the timeline of both symptoms.
Reportedly, 15 cases have been associated with the Hermiston Wal-Mart distribution center and the study will begin on June 30. Five cases were associated with Marlet Holmes, and the study began on July 8.
In response to the question how Walmart was handling the outbreak at the distribution center, the company Sent a video Greg Smith, Executive Vice President of Supply Chain at Walmart, explains the safety measures the company is taking to protect distribution center workers from COVID-19. These measures include temperature checks for everyone entering the center, masks, sanitation, and social distance.
Lamb Weston’s Hermiston treatment facility continues to report 124 cases, up from 115 last week. The factory tested and closed all employees when the first case was reported on June 15. A spokeswoman, Shelby Stoolman, said in an email Wednesday, July 15th, that the plant had reduced staffing and resumed limited operations.
The East Oregon Correctional Facility had a positive test for 3 employees and 13 inmates as of 15 July, 4 tests were negative, and 12 are still pending. The prison chief, Ron Miles, said the prison’s previous report that 16 adults in detention had tested positive on 14 July was inaccurate and three undecided individuals were falsely marked as positive. He said in an email.
He said 29 people were medically quarantined and 11 out of 20 units in prison remained quarantined due to potential exposure.
Other Umatilla and Morrow counties that remained on the Oregon Department of Health list for another week were:

- 21 cases of Shearer’s Foods from Hermiston
- Atkinson stuffing 17 cases
- Oregon Potato Company Boardman
- 9 Pendleton Hill Company
- Eight cases with two river correction facilities in Umatilla
The Umatilla County Public Health Department has also released the county’s latest COVID-19 number. The county reported on July 15th 38 newly confirmed cases of COVID-19.
According to a news release, the new cases brought up to 1,111 confirmed cases and 72 putative cases in Umatila County, and 11 patients were hospitalized. The county has killed eight people who are positive for COVID-19.
