Lab-confirmed measles cases in Peel region, others may have contracted measles
Peel Public Health (PPH) is investigating a confirmed case of measles and warns that some people may have been exposed to the highly contagious virus.
According to Peel Public Health, the case includes a child with no connection to another case or travel history.

Authorities are now in contact with people who may have contracted the virus.
A news release from the Peel region said members of the public may have been exposed at:
- June 7, Walmart, 1500 Dundas Street E, 12pm-5pm
- June 7, Grant’s Foodmart, 3415 Dixie Rd, 5-9 p.m.
- June 9 and 10, Medical One Center and Pharmacy For Family Practice and Walk-in Clinic (620 Bloor Street, Mississauga), June 9 10am-2pm and 3-6:30pm until the minute, June 9th from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm June 10th.
- June 12, Trillium Health Partners Mississauga Site, 100 Queensway W, Emergency Department, 10am-5:30pm
Measles is a highly contagious disease that easily spreads to people who have not been vaccinated or who have never had measles. Infants younger than 1 year, unvaccinated pregnant women, and people with weakened immune systems are at higher risk of complications.
Symptoms of measles begin 7 to 21 days after infection and include:
- High fever (sometimes soaring above 104°C).

- Red, watery eyes (conjunctivitis, i.e. pink eye), hypersensitivity to light.
- A red rash lasts 4 to 7 days.
