Increasing Number of COVID-19 Incidents Called “Awesome” in Georgia | Health

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Georgia increased by 3,871 in the 24-hour period ending Wednesday afternoon. This is the second-highest daily increase in the state since the beginning of the pandemic.

On the other hand, the capacity of hospital emergency beds continues to decline, with only 16% of the beds available. State statistics show that three hospital areas in Georgia (Northeast, Central, and South of the state) have no more than seven beds.

COVID-19 hospital admissions in the state increased by 45, reaching a record level of 2,786.

In an official statement Wednesday, John Haupert, CEO of Grady Health System, said: COVID-19 is expanding at an alarming rate, and there are real signs that local hospitals are expanding far beyond capacity before infection rates are once again under control.”

COVID-19 figures were announced by the state’s Department of Public Health when Governor Brian Kemp approached a deadline to implement new virus rules or lift current state restrictions. Later Wednesday, the governor once again expanded a series of coronavirus restrictions. This extension is valid until midnight, July 31st.

Kemp strongly encouraged Georgians to wear masks to contain the virus, but is not working to mandate statewide requirements for face covers. However, some Georgia cities have publicly ordered the wearing of masks, such as Atlanta, Augusta, and the savanna.

And in Alabama, Wednesday’s governor took the same steps. “The numbers don’t lie,” Governor Kay Ivey said the presidential decree on wearing masks will take effect Thursday from 5 pm to 31 July.

Ivey’s mandate is to wear a face covering public places, outdoors or indoors, if you can’t keep at least 6 feet away from others. This directive also applies to people who use public transportation and groups of 10 or more people who gather outside.

“People are very anxious”

COVID-19 patients continue to grow in hospital systems throughout Georgia.

Dr. Robert Janssen, Chief Medical Officer at Grady Memorial Hospital, said Tuesday that the SafetyNet facility in Atlanta is treating more COVID-19 patients than ever. He added that the Grady Clinic is also growing in the number of such patients.

Jansen said Atlanta’s healthcare leaders are “on the cutting edge.” “I’m very worried that if people don’t slow things down, we’ll run out of capacity.”

Piedmont Healthcare, which has 11 hospitals, is also seeing an increase in COVID-19 patients at the facility, Wednesday said.

As part of the system’s response to the pandemic, the new Piermont Atlanta Hospital’s new Marcus Tower opened permanently Wednesday, 17 days ahead of schedule.

“Our mission as a non-profit healthcare system is to serve patients in the community. The new Marcus Tower incorporates the latest technology and larger rooms to offer many other benefits. ”Said Kevin Brown, CEO of Piedmont Healthcare. In a statement.

Patients on the 3rd floor of the existing Piedmont Atlanta Hospital were moved to Marcus Tower to create additional capacity. The Piedmont deal with the state calls for the possibility of an additional 40 beds.

“These hospital beds provide additional surge capacity to Metro Atlanta’s healthcare facilities, ensuring that COVID-19 patients receive the essential care they need,” Kemp said in a statement. It was

Due to limited testing capabilities, Piedmont also said that pre-procedure testing is only performed on patients requiring hospitalization and on delivery and childbirth. Others have been screened and are being treated by staff in personal protective equipment.

There’s another annoying report about the test-lazy to get back the results.

Public Health Director Dr Kathleen Tommy told WSB-TV on Monday that the state was taking action on these delays.

“I will be very straightforward to you, it is absolutely unacceptable,” Tommy said. “We need better response and time.”

Both St Mary’s Hospital and Athens Piedmont Hospital are diverting Athens Regional Hospitals, Athens Clark County Commissioner Russell Edwards said Wednesday.

Attempts to obtain official confirmation have not been answered by both hospitals and state authorities.

At Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, where more than 100 patients died at COVID-19, the number of virus patients admitted in their 30s in May and June leveled off. Currently, the number of hospitalized patients is increasing, but it is far from the peak time in April. Still, the increasing numbers are concerned about hospital personnel.

“All other hospitals are getting full,” spokesman Ben Roberts said Tuesday. “I’m worried that the hospital will soon be overcapacity.”

Some hospitals have reached that point in Texas, Arizona, and Florida.

Navicent Health’s medical center said Wednesday that it is now at capacity.

“But I want to assure the community that this is not due to COVID’s patient care,” said Navicent spokesman Megan Allen.

“As a tertiary referral center, we frequently reach capacity at the 637-bed Macon Hospital and work with the system and other hospitals in the region to ensure that patients in need receive uninterrupted treatment. When we reach the city, we’re planning and we’re not surprised.”

Other COVID related news in Georgia:

• A vaccine developed in collaboration with the National Institutes of Health by biotechnology company Moderna has been shown to elicit an immune response in all vaccinated volunteers in a Phase 1 study.

The Emory University Vaccine and Therapeutic Evaluation Unit was one of two sites in the country where the COVID-19 vaccine was tested.

“These intermediate results are very promising,” said Dr. Evan Anderson, Principal Investigator at the Emory trial.

• New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is sending help to Atlanta mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms to contain the new infection.

11Alive says Atlanta will receive thousands of test kits, gowns, gloves, N95 masks and face shields on Friday, according to Cuomo’s office.

Cuomo announced that the state will provide resources to its teams in Atlanta, share contact tracking expertise, and provide technical assistance to support Atlanta’s contact tracking program. New York has been the epicenter of US coronavirus cases for weeks and still has the highest number of virus deaths nationwide. However, state officials say they have significantly reduced the infection rate.

• Starting Wednesday, the Trump administration ordered the hospital to bypass the Atlanta-based CDC and send all COVID-19 patient information to a central database in Washington, according to the Department of Health and Human Services.

In a statement, Michael Caputo, Assistant Secretary of Public Relations at HHS, said the new coronavirus data collection system was “faster” and the CDC was one week behind reporting hospital data.

According to the NPR, public health experts have expressed concern about changes to the report as it could interfere with access to public data. It also happens when the Trump White House spurs on the pandemic response with CDC director Robert Redfield and other federal scientists.

“It’s really hard to see this as some kind of interference or obstruction. [to] According to the NPR, Saskia Popesque, an epidemiologist at the University of Arizona, said. “There are so many concerns now about the politicalization of data, and this is a concern.”

In a telephone conversation with the media on Wednesday, Redfield defended the change, saying it was “designed to streamline the press.”

“No one is stealing access or data from the CDC,” Redfield said.
