More coronavirus cases than expected at Herefordshire farm
HEREFORDSHIRE’s Director of Public Health expects more positive cases among AS Green & Co farm workers as testing continues.
To date, the total number of positive cases associated with outbreaks on Mathon farms is 93.
But the county’s director of public health, Karen Wright, says “no doubt” that more positive cases will occur as the tests are performed.
She said health workers are conducting large-scale retests of people on the farm.
“There is no doubt that more cases will occur,” she said.
“More tests are in progress. We did a big retest of people yesterday (July 15th).
“Basically, some people will still be cultivating the virus, so those who have been in contact will need to be self-isolated for 14 days.
“It is the same for all populations that test positive.”
Latest farm outbreak:
She said the risk to the community was low and she focused on containing the virus on the farm.
“So we’re continuing to test and work with the UK Public Health Service to make sure we have follow-up to anyone we contact during that time,” she said.
“Carefully monitor all data to make sure it stays within its farm settings.
“We are actively working with Green to identify potential potential contacts.
“Our priority is the health and well-being of everyone in the community and doing what we can to bring it into the farm environment.”

Wright said they have an idea about what caused the outbreak, but it’s not yet certain.
“It’s really work in progress. It’s a complicated process so I can’t say exactly where it came from. But PHE is working on that process.”
Wright said the Green family was very active in their response to the outbreak.
“They work well with the council and are stepping through each step of the process to make sure they are doing everything possible to contain it on the farm.”
“In addition, it’s very important to get back into business.
“We are considering all the steps we need to take to do that. This reassures that everything that is happening is supposed to be happening. I will.
