754 coronavirus infections kill 7 more in Washington
Seattle, WA — State health officials confirmed 754 new cases of coronavirus in Washington on Wednesday and reported seven additional deaths associated with COVID-19.
According to the Department of Health, at least 348 patients are currently hospitalized for confirmed or potential COVID-19 disease throughout the state. Daily average hospital stays are still well below peak, but remain much higher than levels seen in mid-May. In King County, public health officials reported 40 new hospitalizations Friday.
The state will continue to carefully monitor hospital activity and hospitalization, coordinate transfers and, if necessary, re-prioritize distribution of protective clothing to frontline workers.

COVID-19 is on the road to “runaway growth” in Washington, health officials warn
The State Department of Health released an updated status report on Friday and officials say the findings are alarming. The daily average of new cases is much higher than the previous peak in the state in March, and the recent growth of people aged 20 to 29 seems to have spread to other age groups.
In addition to increasing the number of cases, hospitalization rates are rising for all age groups in eastern Washington, health officials said. In western Washington, rates are beginning to rise due to new hospitalizations between the ages of 20 and 39.

Reportedly, the virus transmission rate is rising in most parts of the state, and breeding numbers are well above target levels in both eastern and western Washington.
One major exception discovered by the researchers is in Yakima County, where infection rates are approaching target ranges. Earlier this week, the state pointed to early evidence that widespread compliance with the new Mask Order in Yakima County helped begin to reverse its exponential growth.
