“We are still on it” — Contacton Traces Continue in Brockton as COVID-19 Cases Decline-News-The Enterprise, Brockton, Massachusetts
Tracers from the health department and state partners will call people who test positive for COVID-19 and its close contacts.
Brockton — COVID-19 contacts will continue to be tracked as the state effort ends.
According to Linda Cahill, the city’s interim health official, cases are still in Brockton, so people are being followed up to contact people who have had close contact with the virus positive, but the number of cases is It has been decreasing since April.
“There was a lot of catch-up,” she said. “We were blamed from the beginning.”
A team of tracers consisting of eight nurses from the Department of Health, several school nurses, and a community tracing tracer with the state’s Partners In Health is handling cases of Brockton’s coronavirus.
They find positive cases through the statewide system and contact the population testing positives and their close contacts. Close contact is anyone who is within 6 feet of an infected person within 2 days of diagnosis.
Tracers encourage people to quarantine if there are no particular symptoms and seek treatment for the symptoms as needed. You can also provide support and refer to resources that are isolated or self-isolated.

The Health Department will call people’s landlines, send text messages, send letters, or contact relatives, Cahill said.
The staff will try three times, as not everyone picks up first, she said. There were some cases lost during the follow-up.

The number of dense contacts the trailer calls has a range, Cahill said. Brockton in particular has a large population, so it can depend on where people live and work.
“It was very helpful (working together). If not, it would have been very different,” Cahill said.

Brockton was one of the first communities to join the state’s contract tracking co-op.
Launched in April with Partners in Health, the program aims to hire more than 1,000 tracers to support local health committees.
According to Partners in Health, contact tracking helps with early detection and helps identify exposed but unknown people.
Governor Charlie Baker said last week that health tracer partners have been reduced because less work has been done by the partners in a lower lawsuit in Massachusetts.
The COVID-19 positive test rate was 40% when the collaboration first started, but around 2% since mid-June.
“The number of people who need to stay in touch has dropped dramatically,” Baker said at a news conference on July 8. “In the end, we had far more people than we needed.”
He said that as the number of cases declined, it became easier for health councils to handle them, and they needed less support from joint tracers.
Baker said the fired tracers could be called back.
According to Cahill, 56 Tuesdays had COVID-19 cases in Brockton as of Tuesday. Since the beginning of the pandemic, Champions City has suffered 4,275 COVID-19 cases and 252 deaths.
“It’s still happening, but we’re still on it,” Cahill said. “We are trying to help people.”
