UK coronavirus death toll rises by 27 bringing total to 45,300

A further 27 people have died after testing positive for coronavirus in the UK.
The Government said on Sunday that a total of 45,300 people had died in hospitals, care homes and the wider community.
This is an increase of 27 from 45,273 the day before.
Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies show there have now been 55,700 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.
The Government also said there had been a further 726 lab-confirmed cases. Overall, a total of 294,792 cases have been confirmed.
It comes after the Department for Health and Social Care said on Friday it was “pausing” publication of daily death figures for the whole of the UK.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock ordered a review into claims by researchers that there were “statistical flaws” in the way they are calculated.
Meanwhile, devolved authorities have been publishing separate figures which differ from the Government’s official death toll.
Eight people died in England, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths in hospitals to 29,181.
The patients were aged between 61 and 91 years old and all had known underlying conditions, NHS England said on Sunday.
Wales reported one new death, Scotland none while Northern Ireland does not release updated figures on weekends.

Professor Sir Ian Diamond said the the Public Health England (PHE) daily Covid-19 death figures which have been paused had “aimed to look at trends over time”.
If people wanted to know the accurate data on deaths they should go to the Office for National Statistics, he added.
When asked if the PHE data was fit for purpose he said: “It’s really important to recognise that different statistics are used for different things and so the PHE data are basically aimed to look at trends over time.
“If you want to know the accurate data on deaths my recommendation is to go to the ONS data.
“We believe very firmly, as does everyone, that the very best person to take a decision around what’s the cause of death is the medical practitioner who is there at the time.
“Someone who has Covid but then gets run over by a bus – it is inconceivable a medical practitioner is going to say the cause is Covid-19.”
Scotland announced on Sunday that it has recorded 23 new confirmed cases of coronavirus – the highest increase in almost a month.
The number of new cases has now risen in each of the last five days – up from three on Tuesday – although no further deaths of people with the disease have been recorded.
The previous high for new cases was recorded on June 21, when there were 26 positive test results.
A total of 18,445 people in Scotland have now tested positive for Covid-19.
There were 302 coronavirus patients in hospital as of Saturday evening, three of whom were in intensive care along with another patient who is suspected of having the infection.

Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence.
