Coronavirus jeopardizes major projects at Sheffield Children’s Hospital
According to a charity, major projects at pediatric hospitals, including new emergency departments and cancer wards, are at stake with the coronavirus.
The fund is expected to reduce the funding by £2.5 million, according to a charity donating to Sheffield Children’s Hospital.
The hospital has major plans for the project, including a complete renewal of the emergency department and new cancer and leukemia wards. We also plan to build a helipad on the roof, as severely ill children now need to travel across crowded roads from nearby public parks when they arrive by ambulance.
Children’s Hospital Charity announced a significant decrease in funding due to a coronavirus pandemic.
Charity director David Vernon Edwards said:
As a charity, we expect the Covid-19 crisis to reduce funding by approximately £2.5 million by the end of the financial year. We’ve been doing as much fundraising as we can this year, but we felt it was important to share this information with the public, especially given how important it is to Sheffield Children.
Charity’s Building A Better Future Appeal was launched two years ago with the biggest appeal ever, with £14.25 million for Sheffield Children’s.
To date, it has raised £5 million for the construction of a brand new Safeguarding Support Unit as well as cancer and leukemia wards, emergency departments and helipads.
The pandemic has seen major set-piece fundraising events as well as postponement of regular charity balls, bake sales and raffles to support charities across the region.
According to a charity, the emergency department was built to see 32,000 children each year, but now has over 58,000 children across South Yorkshire, Derbyshire, and Lincolnshire.
It launched another emergency Covid-19 appeal, A huge donation from Matt Fitzpatrick, a regular customer of golfers and children’s hospital charity.
During the lockdown, Sheffield Children’s Hospital undertook all emergency pediatric surgery to support hospitals in South Yorkshire and North Nottinghamshire.
