Brothers lose their parents to COVID-19 within two weeks of each other
Houston (Grey News) – When 14-year-old Isaiah Garcia stood on her mother at her funeral earlier this month, he thought it was the hardest thing he could do.
Two weeks later his father died.
“I couldn’t say goodbye to my mother or father now. That’s the most painful thing for me right now,” Isaiah said.
Naomi Eskibel, 39, died on July 2 at COVID-19.
Eskibel’s 24-year-old husband, Carlos Garcia, 44, attended a funeral with his son Isaiah and 11-year-old Nathan.
He was recovering from coronavirus when he was hospitalized for renal failure. On July 17, he proved unresponsive. The end was early, like Eskibel, who was hospitalized for only one day.
“He just talked to his son at 11 o’clock, said Jacob Mendoza, Eskibel’s younger brother.
Both parents were alone when their health died – the reality of COVID-19, the burden of Eskibel’s mother.
“This death is more tragic than it was before, because I die alone, without a family, I die alone,” said Marquez Mendoza.
Four fathers, Jacob Mendoza, raise a nephew.
“I love them dearly, and I know this was what their parents wanted,” he said.
It’s a big responsibility the boys appreciate.
“at least [my father] At least we could be with our family,” Isaiah said. “I didn’t have to go to an orphanage or anything. Now I like being here more than anywhere else.”
The whole family is trying to handle unimaginable losses.
“We don’t have words to explain that… we have no words,” said Marquez Mendoza. “We are Christians, we accept God’s will, and if this is his will, we know that he will guide us.”
