North Carolina woman attacked in bed by a mad fox
Greensboro, North Carolina (WGHP) — A North Carolina woman had a terrifying encounter with a rabies fox at home on Sunday night.
Julie Lofrin said she was in bed when she saw a fox coming in through the dog door of a patio dog.
She remembered seeing the animal face to face as she jumped into bed before the fox’s ears slipped across her room.
“I was praying for life,” Lofrin remembered from the moment Fox jumped on her bed.
It grabbed her with her feet and didn’t let go until she peeled it off her.
He then held her neck for over 12 minutes, waiting for police and paramedics to arrive.
“I don’t know what else I can do. I might throw pillows, blankets, etc.,” she said.
On Wednesday, animal care confirmed that the fox tested positive for rabies.
Lofrin has endured several shots, including a rabies vaccine. She still feels a lot of pain, but is grateful that her dog Daches and other pets in the neighborhood have not been hurt.
“I left the door open at home so she could enter. I don’t do it anymore,” she said.
A neighbor in the Pine Barcourt area told WGHP that he saw more foxes approach the people’s property.
Animal care leaders explained that it could apply in many areas.
Warm climates may allow more foxes to move about from their natural habits. January to March is usually the mating season, so more foxes may walk to your neighborhood. Or the fox is moving around looking for food.
Guilford County Animal Controls says this is the eighth case of rabies in 2020.
