LAPD officer died after being infected with coronavirus in anticipation of twins
Police officers in Los Angeles died of coronavirus early Friday, police officials told The Times.
Michelle Moore, chief of LAPD, said 45-year-old Valentin Martinez was presumed to have been patroled and infected with the virus on the job. He was armed for 13 years.
The sorrow of Martinez’s family and colleagues, according to Moore, is that Martinez’s domestic partner has been pregnant for a twin boy for 20 weeks.

According to Moore, Martinez is presumed to have been infected with the virus on the job, as were all active officers who developed COVID-19 symptoms.
“We all mourn together about the loss of police officers, servants, and those who worked the streets to save the lives of people in Los Angeles,” Moore said. “There are all kinds of threats to their safety, and this is another threat.”
Moore said Martinez first fell ill in May.
Martinez was the second person to die of the virus in LAPD. Early this month, Senior detainee Erica McAdoo died of a complication of COVID-19.
As of 22 July, a total of 437 LAPD employees had the virus, officials said. According to a news release, 254 of these employees have been quarantined due to exposure.
