Dallas – After a family of 14 became infected with the virus, the family mourned and wanted to be healed.

The one-time gathering deeply affected the family and those who love them.

After spending a few months, the family found it safe to get together for a small backyard barbecue.

No one felt sick at the time. A few days later, 14 families tested positive for COVID-19. One died of the virus. The other remains in the ventilator.

“Everyone reassured me that it wasn’t my fault, but my house,” said 43.

Green and his partner hosted a small gathering for parents in mid-June. Six of them were fine at the time and continued their lives. A few days later, 14 people in this family photo were diagnosed with COVID-19.

“I’m like a host,” Green said. “And I don’t know who has what, but it spread because I had it to put this idea together. I’m having a hard time with it.”

Green went to Medical City Dallas and spent three days there. The virus attacked his nervous system.

“I finally went to the ER and, yes, I found that I was still infected with the virus,” he said.

Rafael Seha, Green’s father-in-law, was hospitalized there the same day. After a while, Seha’s 68-year-old mother was also hospitalized there. She died in a hospital because of the virus.

Ceja, who developed pneumonia, has been on a ventilator for 11 days.

“This is something I have never experienced in my life,” said Rafael’s wife Marisa Seja. “I never thought of that, but it’s true. I know it’s true.”

Dr. Priya Subramanian is an infectious disease doctor unrelated to this case. This serves as a clear example that COVID-19 is highly contagious, she says.

“I think the fact that asymptomatic people can continue to spread it makes it more complicated,” she said. “People are at high risk of spreading the disease with any kind of splash exposure.”

Green says he didn’t wear masks at his family barbecue. He says it’s a decision he regrets deeply.

“I’m very sick of how I responded and thought of people who were so worried about this,” he said.

The family is now focusing on Seja and praying for him to pull out.

“Only God ends me,” Marisa said. “I entrust all faith to God.”

Dr. Sabramanian encourages people to continue to avoid gatherings, however small.

Ceja continues to support life.
