Cape Cod COVID Party Leads to Virus Cluster in Restaurant
Chatham, Massachusetts (NEXSTAR)—The Massachusetts Department of Public Health has issued a virus cluster notice that appears to be a COVID party in Cape Cod.
Many restaurants in Chatham are currently closed at the peak of the summer tourism season WCVB..
The sign posted on the door of Kream N’Kone in Chatham explains why. Workers tested positive for COVID-19 and staff are currently self-isolated.
Another restaurant, a chatty fig, was closed for deep cleaning.
The town’s health director says COVID-19 cases have popped up after a house party in the town on July 12.
“Signs that were present between 30 and 50… and they weren’t wearing masks and they weren’t socially separated,” said Dr. Robert Duncanson.
Many worked in the restaurant industry.
“(A) The number of restaurants we called contacted us. There was a staff there. These staff were now self-isolated,” Dr. Duncanson said. ..
Dr. Sila Dolon, an epidemiologist at the Tufts Medical Center, advised me when I recently visited a restaurant in Chatham.
“…I know about the people who took the test, but I don’t know how contagious it was before being tested. Pay attention to the symptoms. The problem is no symptoms or mild symptoms. .”
Epidemiologists have warned that more cases may be reported in Cape Cod in the coming weeks.
