As part of the government’s commitment to obesity in the UK, the “buy one buy one free” deal on unhealthy foods is prohibited.

The plan also includes restrictions on where in the store you can promote fat and sugary foods, and new rules for displaying calories in menus.

Prohibit junk food advertising by 21:00 Confirmed-Whole UK.

Boris Johnson said the plan would help “reduce our health risks and protect us from the coronavirus.”

The prime minister plans to announce his strategy later, with growing evidence of an association between obesity and increased risk from Covid-19.

Government statistics show that nearly 8% of critically ill patients who use the virus are morbidly obese, compared to 2.9% of the general population.

The move showed a change in stance by the prime minister, who had previously criticized the taxation of foods high in salt, fat and sugar, and described his view of the obesity approach as “liberal.”

However, Johnson’s experience in intensive care during Covid-19 treatment is believed to have contributed to his change in position.

Along with the ban on television and online advertising in the basin, the government said it will discuss whether to stop fast food advertising entirely online.

Displaying calories on the menu applies to restaurants, cafes and takeout chains with more than 250 employees. Also, another new consulting will be launched on a plan to provide the same information about alcoholic beverages.

“Radical change”

Doing this will fundamentally change the way food is sold.

Most of the proposals were first presented in a policy paper in 2018 and were discussed before they got stuck.

What is important is the reaction of companies that have opposed the measures so far. The Food and Beverage Federation has again shown a hostile reaction.

But what about advertisers, who have severely limited freedom to promote some foods?

Sir John Hegati, a pillar of the industry, has come out in favor of banning television advertising of unhealthy foods before the 9 pm watershed. He said the health crisis is growing.

Many in the beverage industry have already accepted the need for calorie labeling.

The business lobby may be changing, just as Boris Johnson and other conservative politicians have moved from libertarian non-intervention approaches to calls for obesity.

New measures include NHS’s extended weight management services (such as online tools and “healthy weight coaches” to support patients) and people to lose weight and eat healthier after a “wake up call”. Coronavirus with a national campaign to make it fun.

Family doctors are encouraged to prescribe exercises such as cycling and other activities, and next year doctors will be provided with incentives to help the obese people.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock said, “Everyone knows how difficult weight loss is, so we’re taking bold steps to help everyone in need.”

He was taken together and said the new measures and campaign would “country eat healthy and lose pounds.”

Am I overweight?

According to the NHS, most adults with a body mass index (BMI) of 25 to 29.9 are overweight and adults with a BMI of 30 to 39.9 are classified as obese.

The body mass index is calculated by dividing the weight (kg) of a person by the square of their height (meters).

Another measure of excess fat is waist size. Men with a waist greater than 94 cm and women with a waist greater than 80 cm are more likely to develop problems related to obesity.

Dr. Alison Tedstone, chief dietitian of British public health, also supported the strategy and said it would save lives.

“These bold steps will help tip the scale of obesity. The behavioral debate is the clearest ever,” she added.

“Today is a milestone for public health,” said Michelle Mitchell, CEO of Cancer Research, UK.

“Being overweight or obese exposes many diseases, including 13 cancers, and disproportionately affects people with poor backgrounds, so the plan raises the country’s level and increases the healthier population.” Very useful for.”

“The British Medical Council’s Scientific Committee Chairman, Professor Dame Parveen Kumar, said: “The BMA has long sought new ways to tackle obesity, and we’re pleased to see the government stand up and listen.

“What we need now is an expansion that promises to provide full NHS services with sufficient resources and funding, so that those who are implementing this strategy as quickly as possible and who are suffering from their own weight To get the support you need.”

However, “there are few signs of a policy to address the underlying causes of obesity,” said Adam Briggs of the Health Foundation.
