COVID-19 occurs at Bay State Medical Center

The outbreak of COVID-19 occurred in the largest hospital in western Massachusetts.

Employees at the Bay State Medical Center, who recently traveled out of the state, brought the highly contagious coronavirus to Springfield Hospital and infected 13 patients and 23 staff with COVID-19.

“This event reinforces that COVID-19 is extremely harmful and needs vigilance to contain its spread,” Keroack said.

According to Keroack, the virus seems to have spread to employees in break rooms where face masks are not always worn. He also said that employees who went to the virus “hotspot” do not need to be quarantined before returning to work.
