Free pediatric vaccination clinic held in Portland ahead of 'blackout date'
All students in Oregon must receive childhood vaccines by February 21st. Otherwise, they risk being sent home from school until they are up to date on recommended immunizations.
“Blackout Day” falls on the third Wednesday of February each year and is open to all children attending public and private schools, as well as children attending preschool, Head Start, and certified preschools, unless they have a medical exemption or personal exemption. Applies to This does not include COVID-19 vaccinations that do not require children to attend school, but does include immunizations to protect against other common childhood diseases such as measles, polio and whooping cough.
Approximately 5,600 families in Multnomah County were sent school exclusion warning letters earlier this week, county officials said.
A series of vaccination clinics for students ages 5 to 19 are being held in Portland. Students and their families can receive the shots for free, regardless of whether they have insurance or not. Families are encouraged to make reservations by calling her at 503-988-8939, but reservations are not required.
The first of four clinics will be held today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Blazers Boys & Girls Club, 5250 NE Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Other clinics are also doing the following:
- Wednesday, February 14th, 3:45-5:45pm, McDaniel High School, 2735 NE 82nd Ave.
- Saturday 10am-2pm February 17th, David Douglas High School South Building, 1500 SE 130th Ave.
- Wednesday, February 21st, 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at CareOregon Boys & Girls Club Rockwood, 454 SE 165th Ave.
