SNP MP slams Boris Johnson’s new lords list
RUTH Davidson, Boris Johnson’s brother and a newspaper owner have all been hired for life in the House of Lords.
The Prime Minister also honored former England cricketer Sir Ian Botham and billionaire Tory donor Michael Spencer.
Former Chancellors Philip Hammond and Ken Clarke have also been sent back to the Upper House, while Theresa May’s husband Philip will receive a knight for ‘political service’.
SNP’s Pete Wishart described it as the “worst kind of cronyism” while the Speaker of the House of Lords said it was “a shame” that so many new peers were being created.

Johnson’s decision to increase the number of members of the House to 36 means it will soon have nearly 200 more members than the House of Commons – despite previous promises by the Conservatives to reduce the number of unelected lawmakers.
It’s not just the Conservatives and their fat buddies who are being measured for ermine dresses. There was also room on the red benches for a number of former Labor politicians, including ex-MP Ayr Katy Clark. She had spent much of the past few years working closely with Jeremy Corbyn.
Frank Field, Kate Hoey, Ian Austin, Gisela Stuart and John Woodcock were all nominated for a place in the upper house as well.
Davidson has pledged that she will remain as MSP for Edinburgh Central until the end of her tenure next year.
The future Baroness said: “I am honored to follow in the footsteps of former Holyrood parliamentarians such as Jack McConnell, Jim Wallace and Annabel Goldie by being nominated to the House of Lords.
“However, my main focus remains my central constituency in Edinburgh and I have confirmed that I will only take my seat after I cease to be an MP in March.”
Wishart said it was telling “that amid a global health pandemic and economic crisis claiming thousands of jobs their jobs, Boris Johnson is handing out jobs for life in the unelected House of Lords to friends and to those who have helped him. ”

He added: ‘The idea of the PM leveling is to offer his cronies, damaging political enablers and family members jobs as lifelong lawmakers – without a democratic mandate or accountability to the citizens of the UK .
“This is the worst kind of cronyism that only underscores the rotten Westminster system, detached from reality.
“It is clear beyond a doubt that Westminster is simply not working for Scotland and acting against our interests. The House of Lords must be abolished – not filled to the brim at taxpayer expense.”
Lord Fowler, Lord Speaker, said the list of new peers marked “a missed opportunity to reduce membership in the House of Lords”.
He added: “The result will be that the House will soon number almost 830 people, almost 200 more than the House of Commons. It is a massive political turnaround. Only two years ago, then Prime Minister Ms. May committed to a policy of “restraint” in the number of new appointments.
