A video showing a the man has been brutally attacked from cow watchers in Gurugram while police watch has gone viral on social media, NDTV reported on Saturday. The incident happened around 9am on Friday.
The cow alert group pursued a pickup truck for several miles in a vehicle before it managed to get it off. They pulled out the driver, identified as Lukman, and they brutally attacked him on suspicion of transporting beef. After the attack, during which the police and some passers-by simply observed, the man got back into the vehicle and was taken to Badshahpur village, where he was beaten again.
When the police finally tried to act, the attackers became aggressive with them as well. One person has been arrested in the incident, and the victim was taken to hospital, Express Indian She reported. But police also sent a sample of the meat to a lab for testing.
Pradeep Yadav, 26, a resident of Rajiv Nagar, has been arrested, said Gurugram Police Public Relations Officer Subhash Boken. So far, he does not appear to be affiliated with any element of the fringe or political party. The investigation is underway to apprehend the other accused. Boken added that the victim had been taken to the Government Hospital in Gurugram, after which he was transferred to Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi.
Lukman claimed in his complaint that the incident happened when he was running to a shop near the Jama Masjid in Gurugram.
