While easing many of the blocking restrictions in England has been pushed amid a rise in Covid-19 cases, some measures are still eased today in much of the country.

This includes a break in mandatory protection from extremely vulnerable clinical people, who can now gather outside in groups of up to six people while continuing to abide by the rules of social distancing, although this relaxation does not apply to Leicester, Luton and Blackburn with Darwen.

Russia is preparing mass vaccination for October

Russia’s health minister is preparing a mass vaccination campaign against the new coronavirus for October, local news agencies have reported after a vaccine ended clinical trials.

Mikhail Murashko said the Gamaleya Institute, a state-run research facility in Moscow, had completed clinical trials of the vaccine and documents were being prepared to register it, the Interfax news agency reported. He said doctors and teachers would be the first to be vaccinated.

“We plan wider vaccinations for October,” Mr Murashko was quoted as saying.

A source told Reuters this week that Russia’s first possible Covid-19 vaccine would secure local regulatory approval in August and be administered to healthcare workers shortly thereafter.

More than 100 possible vaccines are being developed worldwide, in an effort to stop the pandemic.

At least four are in the latest Phase III human trials, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), including three held in China and another in the UK.

As blocking restrictions are eased in England, but with a second wave sweeping Europe and winter on the horizon, Sophie Gallagher asks if the worst has not yet come.

Experts believe that singing can be just as dangerous as coughing when it comes to the spread of the coronavirus.

Singing – especially large group meetings for extended periods – should be seen as a more dangerous practice, according to a paper discussed by the Scientific Advisory Group on Emergencies (Sage).

This is because of evidence suggesting that activity may produce more aerosols than normal speech or breathing.

“But the big fear is that the virus just gets out of control and we end up in a situation where there are so many viruses that it inevitably spreads to all parts of the population.”

Prof Medley said the increased blockade measures in areas across northern England were “very unlikely” to be “the last intervention to be made in the region”.

“I fully expect there will have to be other interventions in other cases, but what the interventions really are depends on what happens,” he added.

‘Shut down drinks to reopen schools’

Professor Graham Medley, a member of the Scientific Advisory Group on Emergencies (Sage), said England may need to consider closing pubs to reopen schools next month.

Asked about the prediction of Chief Medical Officer Professor Chris Whitty that the country was “close to the borders” of society’s opening, the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine told BBC Radio 4 today program: “I think it ‘s quite possible.

“I think we are in a situation where most people think that opening schools is a priority for the health and well-being of children and that when we do that, we will recreate a lot of families.

The defense tips were eased

Boris Johnson on Friday announced protective advice for people considered clinically extremely vulnerable during the peak of the pandemic in England will be stopped as planned from today.
