Jaisalmer: Amid the ongoing power struggle in Rajasthan, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Saturday attacked the BJP-led central government saying Prime Minister Narendra Modi should step in to stop this ongoing ‘tamasha’ in the state.
“The Prime Minister should stop tamasha in Rajasthan. The rate of horse haggling has increased here. What is tamasha?” said Gehlot, who is camping in Jaisalmer with his party MPs ahead of the assembly session scheduled for August 14.
Fearing the “horse trade” before the session of the Assembly, the Congress of Rajasthan had on Friday moved the party’s deputies to Jaisalmer from Jaipur where they had been staying in a hotel for more than two weeks.
The decision to move MPs came a day after Gehlot said he would seek a vote of confidence when the assembly meets on August 14 and claimed money offered to MPs to switch sides had risen sharply before the session.
Congress and other deputies from Camp Ashok Gehlot had been staying at the Jaipur hotel since July 13 after Sachin Pilot and 18 other congressional lawmakers rebelled against the government, sparking a political crisis. Previously, Pilot had been removed from his post as Deputy Chief Minister and President of the Congress of Rajasthan.
Shekhawat Should Resign: Gehlot Says
Rajasthan’s Chief Minister also criticized Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, saying he should resign after a Jaipur court ordered Rajasthan SOG to investigate its role in the Sanjivani cooperative credit society.
“Gajendra Singh Shekhawat’s name has been brought up to the Sanjivini Cooperative Society (alleged scam). The court also ordered the matter. He should resign for moral reasons,” Gehlot said. “He was involved in the trade in the horses of the deputies, as we heard in the audio tape, he is not allowed to remain in his post,” added the CM.
