British star Idris Elba has announced that a film version of his popular crime drama series Luther is finally happening.
The series, created by Neil Cross, featured Elba as DCI John Luther, an almost brilliant murder detective whose brilliant mind can’t always save him from the dangerous violence of his passions.
The show ended its five seasons in 2019 and since then Elba has teased the possibility of a movie version.
Elba received the special award at the 2020 BAFTA TV Awards on Friday and spoke to the press later, the actor confirmed that the Luther the film is moving forward, Digital Spy reported.
“I argued that I would like to see (Luther) come to a movie. That’s what I think we’re headed for, it’s a movie. I can’t wait to get there. It’s happening, ”the 47-year-old actor said.
Elba added that the film version of the beloved series will give him the opportunity to further explore the character.
“With cinema, the sky is the limit. You can be a little more daring with the storylines. And a little more international, and a little more in scale. But John Luther will always be John Luther,” he added.
