CDC releases new Covid isolation guidelines
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) – The CDC has established some new guidelines for isolating after a positive coronavirus test.
They recommend staying home while you feel sick, but you can return to work or school 24 hours after your symptoms are gone.
This follows previous guidelines that called for people to quarantine for five days if they test positive.
These changes reflect CDC recommendations for influenza and other respiratory illnesses.
Memorial Health doctors say this is likely because more of the population has been vaccinated or infected, increasing their ability to fight the disease.
“The number of people in the U.S. who have been exposed to COVID-19, vaccinated, or both has reached the 98th percentile, with the majority of the population having had some exposure to the vaccine, infection, or both. ” Dr. Tim Connelly, Memorial Health Internal Medicine Specialist. “We have to move forward as a country, as a society, and now is the time to ease some of these restrictions a little bit and take a leap forward so that we can get back to some semblance of normalcy.”
The CDC still recommends that you continue to take precautions after leaving quarantine, such as wearing a mask around others, washing your hands, and practicing social distancing around people who are at high risk for the disease. is recommended.
