Measles outbreak Chicago: Measles case confirmed in Will County, health officials say
WILL COUNTY, Ill. (WLS) — Health officials announced Monday that one person has tested positive for measles in Will County.
The Will County Health Department said it is working to notify people who may have been exposed to measles.
The department said it is also working with the Illinois Department of Public Health.
Officials said the Will County case is linked to measles cases in Chicago, where at least 17 cases have been reported.
“Vaccination is the best way to protect yourself and others from measles,” said Muneeza Azar, Will County Communicable Disease Program Manager. “If you haven't been vaccinated, we strongly recommend that you get vaccinated. If you are unsure whether you have been vaccinated, ask your health care provider if you need the measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) vaccine. If your child is over 1 year old and has never received the MMR vaccine, talk to your pediatrician about how your child may be exposed to the vaccine.”

Officials say signs and symptoms of measles usually appear 10 to 14 days after exposure to the virus. Common symptoms of measles include high fever, cough, runny nose, sore throat, red or watery eyes, and small white spots that appear on the inside of the mouth and on the inside of the cheeks.
