Weekend event to raise money and support for Parkinson's disease patients
BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – More than 20 teams are competing to raise the most money for the Parkinson's Disease Foundation through Baton Rouge's annual Moving Day Walk. The walk is a way to raise money to support families affected by Parkinson's disease, as well as uniting the community around them.
Parkinson's disease is a neurodegenerative disease commonly characterized by tremors and other physical symptoms. Organizers say Moving Day encourages physical activity, which has been proven to be beneficial for people with Parkinson's disease.
Among the team raising money this year is 14-year-old Addie Richardson, whose grandfather has Parkinson's disease. Among the youngest participants, Addy is also one of the main fundraisers.
The main event is scheduled for Saturday, April 27th, and participants have already surpassed the goal of raising a total of $50,000. Five days before the Moving Day campaign ended, they had raised more than $52,000 for him.
Registration for Moving Day will open at 9 a.m. on April 27, with the opening ceremony beginning at 10:15 a.m., followed by a dance-off between participants. This event will be held at the Paula G. Manship YMCA located at 8100 YMCA Plaza Dr. in Baton Rouge.
