Lyme disease prevention event in Harrisburg
(WHTM) – When you think of big, cute animal mascots, who comes to mind? Mickey Mouse? Tony the Tiger?
What about Terry the Tick? He was at the Capitol on Thursday calling attention to something important. About real ticks that are big and cuddly, and the Lyme disease they carry.
State leaders gave awards to outstanding student artists, like the fourth-grader we met from Juniata County who has become quite an expert on Lyme disease prevention.
What is her message?
“If you see a tick, don't panic,” said fourth-grader Lennox Berrier. “It has to be removed safely. I thought I could draw a tree to show where the mites live and where they usually are.”
The event was hosted by the Departments of Health, Environmental Protection and Conservation, and Natural Resources.
