GENEVA (Reuters)-If all the COVID-19 vaccines are available as public goods, the world’s economic recovery could be faster, said Tedros Adhanom Gebreyesus, Executive Director of the World Health Organization. ..
He was speaking in an online panel discussion with members of the US Aspen Security Forum, which is managed by the NBC Network.
WHO Director of Emergency Situations Michael Ryan asked the panel about the proposed Russian vaccine and told the panel that what is currently needed is to make sure the vaccine is safe and effective.
Ryan also said authorities should be able to demonstrate the efficacy of coronavirus vaccines through traditional clinical trials rather than “human challenge” studies.
He mentioned the intentional exposure of vaccinated volunteers to the virus to see if the vaccine worked.
Tedros also told the panel that US leadership and public health support saved many lives. He said the recent withdrawal of the Trump administration from WHO was not money, not US ties to UN agencies, but hoped Washington would reconsider its position.
Trump said in a radio interview Thursday that the U.S. could be vaccinated against the coronavirus before the November 3 election-more optimistic than the timing given by his own White House health experts. Prediction.
