Encourage pregnant women to get pertussis vaccination

Average APFollowing reports of an increase in whooping cough cases, pregnant women are being urged again to get vaccinated against whooping cough.
by United Kingdom Health Security Agency (UKHSA)In the week up to May 12, 72 suspected cases were reported in the east of England, 22 of which were in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.
From the 16th week of pregnancy, all pregnant women are eligible to receive the whooping cough vaccination, as this bacterial disease can be life-threatening for newborns.
UKVAS said uptake rates were falling across the country for both pregnant women and infant vaccination programmes.
Concerns were raised at a recent Healthwatch meeting of Peterborough and Cambridgeshire Integrated Care Board (ICB).

All infants receive three doses of the vaccine at 8, 12 and 16 weeks of age, with the option of a pre-school booster dose at age 3 years and 4 months.
