Health officials warn of possible measles outbreak in Upper Valley
State health officials are investigating a possible measles outbreak in the Upper Valley region.
Health officials in Vermont and New Hampshire say there are currently no confirmed cases of measles in their states.
However, the New Hampshire Department of Public Health is investigating reports of an international traveler who contracted measles shortly after visiting the town of Hanover.
Officials say the traveler was potentially exposed while at various public locations, including the Dartmouth College campus, from June 20 to 22. List of locations: The Health Department announced is as follows:
- June 20-22: Dartmouth College Campus, Hanover
- June 20-22: The Hanover Inn, 2 E. Wheelock St., Hanover
- June 20, 3 p.m.: Hanover Scoops, 57 S. Main St., Hanover
- June 20-22: Lou's Restaurant and Bakery, 30 S. Main St., Hanover (one meal, date and time unknown).
- June 22: Dartmouth Coach Bus from Hanover to Boston Logan Airport (time unknown)
Officials are encouraging people who were in the area on that day, who have not been vaccinated or have not had measles before, to monitor themselves for symptoms.
A few days before the rash appears on the body, symptoms include high fever, cough, runny nose, and watery eyes.
Officials are asking anyone feeling unwell to call their healthcare provider before seeking treatment to prevent the spread of the virus.
Experts say measles is a preventable disease and the vaccine is safe and effective.
