Governor Hawkel updates New Yorkers about recent increase in COVID-19 cases
Governor Kathy Hockle today provided New Yorkers with a COVID-19 update as new variants contribute to increased hospitalizations in parts of New York State and across the U.S. As social gatherings increase during the summer months and warmer temperatures keep people indoors, the Governor urges New Yorkers to get tested if they have symptoms and follow the usual precautions. COVID-19 hospitalizations are currently significantly higher than hospitalization rates at this time last year, but significantly lower than hospitalization rates at this time in 2022.

“New York State Health Commissioner Dr. James MacDonald said: “Hospitalizations are increasing, but are lower than in previous years. As people move indoors to escape the heat, infections increase. This is a good time to remind people to improve ventilation indoors whenever possible.
