CINCINNATI (WKRC) – Local doctors are still seeing allergy symptoms this summer.
This year's allergy season started earlier than normal due to a wet spring, and TriHealth primary care physicians say if you're still experiencing itchy eyes, sore throats and other ailments, that could be because symptoms haven't yet subsided for many people across the Tri-State.
Dr. Raymond Metzger said this is usually a time when things calm down.
“As we get closer to mid-summer, things will calm down a little bit,” said Dr. Metzger, a TriHealth internist in Delhi Township.
If you're still noticing skin rashes, wheezing from asthma or sneezing, or respiratory problems, it might be time to get checked for year-round allergies, he says, which can be treated.
“Typically it's antihistamines, cortisone creams, and sometimes prescription cortisone creams,” Dr. Metzger says.
Allergies tend to develop gradually, with plants, pollen, grasses and trees increasing levels of certain allergens in the air, so if you're experiencing summer symptoms, it might be a good time to get tested to find out what's causing them.
Dr Metzger said it's better for people suffering to seek help early, rather than trying to cope with symptoms once they have worsened.
