According to media reports, more than 10,400 new cases of pancreatic cancer are diagnosed in the UK every year, with only a 10% survival rate over the past five years. Dr Hatziapustolou said their findings showed that loss of HNF4A promotes the development and aggressiveness of pancreatic cancer and correlates with reduced patient survival.
Dr Chris McDonald, head of research at Pancreatic Cancer UK, told the Express that the majority of pancreatic cancers are diagnosed at a late stage and 80% are not detected until the disease has spread and become inoperable.
