Massachusetts confirms first measles case since 2020
BOSTON – Massachusetts health officials say a person in Worcester County has been diagnosed with the virus. measles He has been in the state since 2020.
Public Health said the person is an adult who had recently traveled internationally.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that as of July 11, there had been a total of 167 measles cases nationwide in 2024. 84% of these cases were in unvaccinated patients or people with unknown vaccination status.
“Measles is a highly contagious airborne disease that is on the rise in the United States and around the world, including our neighbors in New England,” Massachusetts Surgeon General Robbie Goldstein said in a statement. “Measles cases have been reported in 30 states since the beginning of last year, most of which are in unvaccinated people or community members. Vaccination is the best way to protect yourself from measles.”
Anyone who is unsure of their measles vaccination status is urged to contact their doctor to get vaccinated.
