The Minnesota Department of Health has confirmed three cases of measles in the state.

HENNEPIN COUNTY, Minn. — The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) reported three confirmed cases of measles in Anoka, Hennepin and Ramsey counties Thursday and stressed the importance of the vaccine.
According to the Minnesota Department of Health, measles cases have been on the rise in 2024, with a total of 15 confirmed cases since January. All of the cases are unvaccinated children, and more than half of the cases have been hospitalized.
MDH said in a news release that the three cases are not directly related and involve people with no travel history, but anyone who has not been vaccinated against measles may be at risk.
What are the symptoms of measles? The MDH describes measles symptoms as a high fever, cough, runny nose, watery eyes and a rash that usually starts on the head and spreads to other parts of the body.
If you or a family member have symptoms of measles, contact your health care provider to schedule an appointment to avoid infecting others.
Health officials recommend that unvaccinated children receive two doses of the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine: one at around 12 to 15 months of age and one at around 4 to 6 years of age.
