Doctor warns of new coronavirus symptoms

Doctors warn that persistent hiccups may be a new symptom of coronaviruses.

It stems from the fact that a man who hiccups for a few days had a positive COVID test in the US, despite no other symptoms of a fatal bug.

According to the reportA 62-year-old patient from Chicago, was admitted to a hospital in April. The doctor also noted that he had unexplained weight loss.

According to a case report published in the American Journal of Emergency Medicine, a man had diabetes but no fever or sore throat.

However, he had 4 hours of persistent hiccups, and when tested for coronavirus, his results returned to positive.

Hiccups are an involuntary condition caused by the particular food we eat, strong emotions such as excitement, or stress.

Currently, the NHS England advises that the main symptoms of coronavirus are new persistent cough, high temperature, or loss of taste and smell.

In the Chicago case, when the man arrived in the emergency department, he was at a temperature of 37.3°C and his heart rate was 96 beats per minute.

The doctor then performed a lung scan and found a ground glass shadow that indicated that the person may be suffering from lung volume.

Further scans showed this to be scattered throughout the lungs.

The patient was placed in an isolation room and treated for possible pneumonia.

A respiratory virus panel and a COVID-19 swab have been submitted for testing.

He was then admitted to the COVID Medical Unit as a person under investigation.

Upon arriving at the COVID unit, his temperature was again measured at 38.4C and the patient’s heart rate reached 104 beats per minute.

Doctors isolated him in the air and tried the antimalarial drug hydroxychloroquine.

The patient was then virus positive.

Scientists know very little about viruses, so new symptoms continue to emerge.

In May, NHS England added loss of taste and smell to the official symptom list.

Since then, researchers have argued that conditions such as headaches should be added to the official list.

Others who have survived COVID have also reported that their hair has begun to fall out.

In the report, “Here we present a case of persistent hiccups as a symptom of COVID-19 infection in a 62-year-old man.

“To our knowledge, this is the first case report of persistent hiccups as an indication of dissatisfaction with COVID-19-positive patients in the emergency medicine literature.”

Doctors at the Cook County Department of Health in Chicago said people with hiccups should not be fired.

“Physicians must keep COVID-19 infections in their differentials as more cases are discovered through atypical presentations.

“Providers should be vigilant and maintain personal protective equipment to avoid exposure from undifferentiated patients.”
