The Summit County Public Health Department recommends starting a full academic year online because of a coronavirus pandemic
Akron, Ohio – On Monday, the Summit County Public Health Department recommended starting kindergarten to high school online in the county due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Health Department has released a list of recommendations for all online initiations that we consider to be the most preferred and least risky option for delaying the spread of COVID-19.
As part of the recommendation, the department 271 children under the age of 19 and teenagers reported being infected with COVID-19 in the Summit County, but noted limited testing of children under the age of 18.
The ministry said it investigated outbreaks related to sports practice and coaching, including when the virus spread to people involved in other activities such as dance and cheerleading, and to participants in other teams. The third and less recommended option is for students to attend school 5 days a week without resizing the class.

The Summit County Public Health Department said it will continue to monitor coronavirus data in the county, particularly cases related to children and schools.
To encourage all students to return to face-to-face schools, the department should identify cases of sustained decline in Summit County for about 4-6 weeks.
