Beyond the heart, researchers found that dengue may be associated with a 213% higher risk of cognitive and memory impairment and a 198% higher risk of movement disorders compared to people with COVID-19.
“This study is extremely important as it is the first comprehensive comparison of post-recovery health issues between dengue and COVID-19 patients, providing valuable insights into healthcare planning and patient management. Furthermore, the findings highlight the need for increased vigilance and targeted interventions to reduce the long-term health impacts on people who have recovered from dengue,” Professor Kwok Kin-on, an infectious disease epidemiologist at the Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, told the National University of Singapore.
