UHN’s Red Blood Cell Disorders Program (RBCD) is one of the largest sickle cell programs in North America.
Managing sickle cell disease involves a team from across UHN, including cardiac, endocrine and chronic care providers with a deep understanding of red blood cell disorders.
The RBCD program has partnered with SickKids Hospital to launch a first-of-its-kind Canadian program that directly coordinates pediatric and adult care, which has proven highly effective in facilitating a smooth transition to a new care team for adolescents and young adults dealing with the challenges of sickle cell disease.
