Ozempic may help manage opioid addiction: study

The Case Western study used medical records to create a database of patients with similar characteristics and followed them for a year to see if they needed medical care for an overdose. Xu said the study included people with opioid use disorder, but didn't take into account whether they were chronic addicts. All of the patients had type 2 diabetes, and about two-thirds were obese.
The risk reduction with semaglutide also held true compared with most other diabetes medicines, including older drugs that work similarly to Ozempic. However, Eli Lilly The researchers did not compare Novo's drug with Lilly's new diabetes injectable drug, Maunjaro.
