Albertans can now book flu, respiratory syncytial virus and COVID-19 vaccination appointments
Albertans can now book appointments for influenza, COVID-19 and respiratory syncytial virus vaccinations.
As of Monday, Albertans can book appointments for vaccines against fall respiratory viruses online, by calling Health Link (811) or by contacting a pharmacy directly.
“As fall approaches, it is important to plan ahead for circulating respiratory viruses,” Health Minister Adriana Lagrange said in a news release.
“We strongly encourage everyone to consult their local pharmacist, physician, or health care provider to make informed decisions about their health and be well prepared for the season. .”
Influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations will be available from October 15th, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccination appointments will be available from October 21st.
“Adding an extra layer of protection this fall is the best way to prevent illnesses that are more likely to occur in the fall and winter,” said Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Mark Joffe.
“The respiratory virus vaccines that will be available this fall are specifically designed to provide strong protection against these virus strains that we expect to be prevalent this season.”
Dr. Cora Constantinescu, a pediatrician and infectious disease specialist at Alberta Children's Hospital in Calgary, is hopeful that vaccine uptake will increase this respiratory disease season. Last year, 28 per cent of Albertans received a flu shot.

“We would be even happier if we could reach 50 per cent uptake. If one in two Albertans got protection, that would be a huge victory,” Constantinescu said.
“Getting these vaccines makes a huge difference in protection for individuals, reducing their chances of being hospitalized by more than 50 to 70 percent, depending on their age group.”
Alberta Health Services has announced that you can now get your flu and COVID-19 vaccinations on the same day. The RSV vaccine should be given two weeks before or two weeks after the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccine and influenza vaccine.
New this year, Albertans aged 60 and older who live in continuing care homes and senior-supported housing will receive a publicly funded respiratory syncytial virus vaccine in addition to COVID-19 and influenza vaccinations. You will be able to receive vaccinations.
Community-dwelling seniors 75 and older will also have access to a limited supply of state-funded respiratory syncytial virus vaccines. Alberta Health Services says people who are not eligible for the province-funded vaccination program can still purchase the vaccine.
