A new opioid center opens at Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx, designed to provide treatment in an intensive care setting
new york — The Bronx has the highest overdose death rate citywide, but a new program being established at Lincoln Hospital is expected to change that.

“Half of the service, the medication portion, is done here at the hospital, but the other half of the service, the treatment portion, is a mile away,” said Dr. Mark Sinclair, Director of Substance Use Services at Lincoln Hospital. Ta. “When you make things difficult for people who already have challenges, it becomes harder to expect them to succeed.”
Intensive care center comes to Bronx

The Bronx has the highest number of overdose deaths of the five boroughs. The new center will begin construction in 2025 and hopes to triple production capacity.
“We hope that we can create situations and opportunities where people can hear more of these stories in the same place,” Sinclair said.
“I don't feel like I'm alone.”
Mercedes Santiago credits Lincoln Hospital with saving her life and returning her to what she loved while she was a patient at a substance abuse recovery center.
She recently showed a group of doctors and patients at Lincoln Hospital what her escape method looked like through an original drawing.
Her passion for art began six months ago, at the same time she decided to get clean.
“I don't feel like I'm alone because I can hear other people's stories,” Santiago said.
