New UVA Health Study Investigates Benefits of High-Intensity Training
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – A new UVA Health study shows high-intensity training can affect your appetite.
These results indicate that in healthy men and women, intense training can suppress ghrelin levels.
Ghrelin is known as the “hunger hormone” and is involved in regulating appetite in the body.
“When we looked at the correlation between ghrelin levels and hunger, we found a moderate relationship, indicating that ghrelin is at least partially related to appetite suppression and exercise. But of course, these are not the only hormones involved,” said Kara Anderson, M.D., a UVA Health physician.
Anderson also said the study was conducted by having participants exercise on stationary bikes, taking blood samples and measuring their appetite using a scale.
