Scottish Coronavirus: Orkney Positive Cases Spread “Rapidly”

NHS Orkney said the island had a “significant number” of positive cases
NHS Orkney says it is “very concerned” that Covid-19 is “rapidly” spreading across the island.
Michael Dixon, CEO of the Health Commission, said several people had developed symptoms and traveled to island and mainland homes.
The warning comes when NHS Grampian said he was investigating the case of Covid-19 connected to Peterhead Elementary School in Aberdeenshire.
The Health Commission said it is working to establish close contacts.
NHS Orkney has not reported confirmed cases of the virus since June 15.
But Michael Dixon said he was aware of a “significant number” of positive cases, some of which came from mainland health commission statistics.
This happens when the patient’s home address is registered off the island.
The exact number of people diagnosed with the virus on the island is unknown. Aberdeen cluster..
Dixon says: “NHS Orkney addresses a significant public health problem for Covid and is deeply concerned about the rapid spread of this virus throughout the community.”
“We believe that the people of Orkney, including those on remote islands, are at real risk and encourage us to take care of them.
“NHS Orkney takes this issue very seriously and is working with partners such as the NHS Mainland Council, Port Authorities, Ferry Operators, Environmental Health and the Orkney Island Council.”
He urged the symptomatic Orkney to immediately self-isolate and seek testing.
The public health team is working to track the contact of positive cases on the island.
Meanwhile, the NHS Grampian said it is investigating a case of Covid-19 related to Peterhead Elementary School in Aberdeenshire.
The Health Commission said it is working to establish close contacts to advise self-isolation.
The Aberdeenshire Council said the reason for closing Peterhead Central on Thursday was a “public health decision.”
