Sarah Teichmann, Chair of Stem Cell Medicine, University of Cambridge Stem Cell Institute, Faculty of Medicine, University of Cambridge

Sarah completed her PhD at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge, UK, and was a Beit Memorial Research Fellow at University College London. She founded a research group at the MRC Molecular Biology Laboratory in 2001. Her major discoveries there included the discovery that protein assembly pathways are stereotyped and conserved. In 2013, she moved to the Wellcome Genome Campus, becoming the first and to date only faculty member to hold appointments in both the EMBL European Bioinformatics Institute and the Wellcome Sanger Institute. In 2016, she was appointed Director of the Cytogenetics Program at the Wellcome Sanger Institute and co-founded the Human Cell Atlas initiative. In April 2024, she was appointed Professor of Stem Cell Medicine within the University of Cambridge School of Medicine and the Cambridge Stem Cell Institute. In addition, Sarah dedicates some of her time to GlaxoSmithKline and EnsoCell Therapeutics, a startup she co-founded. The Teichman lab focuses on the development and application of cell atlas technology to understand human tissue architecture, with particular focus on the immune system and how cellular diversity is generated during development. Aviv Regev, Genentech Head of Research and Early Development and Executive Vice President, Genentech, Inc.

Aviv Regev is Head of Genentech Research and Early Development. Previously, he served as dean and core member of the Broad Institute at MIT and Harvard University, professor of biology at MIT, and investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. She is a founding co-chair of the Human Cell Atlas and a leader in deciphering the molecular circuits that govern cells, tissues, and organs in health and their dysfunction in disease. She pioneered fundamental and computational methods in single-cell genomics that have enabled a deeper understanding of cell and tissue function. Regev is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Medicine, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and a Fellow of the International Society for Computational Biology. Her awards include the ISCB Overton Award and Innovator Award, the Paul Marks Award, the Lurie Biomedical Award, the Keio University Medicine Award, the HFSP Nakasone Award, and the L'Oréal UNESCO Women in Science Award.
