Counseling psychologist Janelle Booker spoke to Michelle Stanley on ABC Radio Perth about the strengths and struggles of the ADHD brain.
Booker said her experience working with people has shown her that neurotypical brains work one way and ADHD brains work another way.
“The neurotypical brain works in a sort of linear, linear, sequential way,” Ms. Booker said.
“The ADHD brain, on the other hand, is more three-dimensional, a kind of network of ideas and concepts.
“And I think that explains a lot of the absolute strengths of the ADHD brain and a lot of the struggles of the ADHD brain.”
Booker says living a Western lifestyle can be difficult for people with ADHD because “adjusting to the neurotypical world that we all live in can be very tiring,” but with help, people with ADHD can He said that people can grow.
“The ADHD brain really shines in areas that require thinking outside the box, solving complex problems, and acting in highly efficient and effective ways in crisis situations. “I do,” Booker said.
