We spoke to Associate Professor Aaron Robinson, Director of Dermatology at Northern Health, about the topic of skin cancer.

“The risk of skin cancer is highest in people who have high exposure to sunlight, such as people who work outdoors or have outdoor hobbies,” says Professor Robinson.

“In particular, people who tan regularly or get tanned by the sun are at increased risk of developing skin cancer. There is no such thing as a healthy tan. Light-skinned people have a higher risk of developing skin cancer, but dark-skinned people can also develop skin cancer,” he says. added.

To prevent skin cancer, it is best to minimize sun exposure and always use sunscreen, including wearing a hat, long sleeves, and sunscreen if you are outdoors for long periods of time.
