Georgia confirms case of CWD, becomes 36th US state to report deadly prion disease

A hunter-harvested whitetail deer has tested positive for chronic wasting disease (CWD) in Lanier County, Georgia, marking the state's first detection of the deadly neurodegenerative disease.

The 2.5-year-old buck was found on private land and sampled as part of routine monitoring, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Division of Wildlife Resources said. news release yesterday.
